How to Include your Dog in the Wedding!
Many people consider their dogs to be family members so OF COURSE they should attend your special day! However, unlike humans, dogs require a bit more planning and consideration before you bring them along.
First things first, check with your venue! Some venues have restrictions when it comes to animals, so let’s start there before we go any further.
Having a dog at your wedding provides a fun sense of unpredictability, but it’s important to assess your dog’s temperament before deciding to bring them along. We want your pup to be a cute addition to your wedding day, not a distraction! How does your dog feel around strangers/kids? Do they like to steal food off the table? Do they bark a lot? These are just some of the questions you should ask yourself before making the decision.
Not only should you assess your dog’s temperament, but do you have the right mindset? If having your dog there will create more stress for you, maybe it’s best they sit this one out. If you have a relaxed, roll with the punches type attitude, then let’s do it!
Hire a dog handler for the day! There are many people who provide this service, or you may opt for someone your dog knows and is comfortable with. This person should be responsible for taking care of and cleaning up after your dog while you’re in wedding day mode!
Lastly, find their role. Dogs can be added in so many ways — ring bearer, flower girl, or maybe you just want a few photos with them the day of. If you need ideas of how to incorporate your dog into your big day, I’m happy to brainstorm!
